Ingredients
- 4 Granny Smith Apples
- 1 lemon
- 100g walnuts (ground or crushed)
- 150g sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 2 Tbsp honey
- 100g butter
- 300ml water
Instructions
1. Prepare the Apples
Peel and core the apples from both ends, removing the seeds. Set aside two of the apple peels for the syrup. Rub the peeled apples with the juice of one lemon to prevent browning. Reserve the squeezed lemon for the syrup.
2. Make the Syrup Base
In a pot, combine the reserved apple peels, squeezed lemon, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and water. Bring to a boil.
3. Cook the Apples
Carefully place the apples into the boiling syrup. Reduce the heat and simmer for 5–6 minutes. Gently turn the apples and cook for another 2–3 minutes on the other side, until slightly softened but still holding shape.
4. Cool & Strain
Remove the apples from the pot and set aside to cool. Continue simmering the syrup for another 2 minutes, then strain and set the syrup aside.
5. Prepare the Filling
In a small saucepan over low heat, melt the butter. Stir in the honey, then add the crushed walnuts. Mix until well combined, then remove from the heat.
6. Assemble the Dessert
Generously stuff each apple with the warm walnut and honey mixture. Pour the strained syrup over the apples and refrigerate for at least an hour to allow the flavours to meld and set.
7. Serve
Serve chilled or at room temperature. Top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of crushed walnuts for garnish. Enjoy your delicious Walnut & Honey Stuffed Apples (Tufahije)!
